It's been my practice this year to get into God's Word in the mornings, do a short devotion, open my Bible and then write down my thoughts...and sometimes God's thoughts.
That's the best part; when I know He's putting the words down through the pen for me.
It's Divine revelation! And it's as simple as a one on one conversation. Jesus loves to get personal and intimate with us. I didn't like it that much at first, because it's humbling and exciting at the same time that the Creator of the universe wants to listen to little old me and then tell me his thoughts. The longer I spend in His presence, the more I understand about life, loving, healing, others, his heart and mind, what desires of mine should be cultivated or cut off.
It had been a few decades since I read an entire gospel from beginning to end. I took just over a month going through the Gospel of John, a chapter a day, reading, praying, writing. It was rich. I hadn't underlined so much in years! It also helpful that I used a new (rather ratty actually) inexpensive Bible I got at a thrift store with newsprint pages in the New Living Translation that I didn't mind scribbling all over in.
Currently, I'm still asking God some big questions; they seem to be the same questions over and over again, and I'm still waiting for the BIG ANSWER! But then it occurred to me I may have forgotten what he had CLEARLY told me since I started this new platform on October 1st of this year. Yep, I forgot a lot! What an encouragement to have a month and a half of 20/20 vision re-reading the things I'd written down with the experience of having lived since then. More is being revealed. I am still baffled I would forget such important things, but that's my pride talking and laughing at myself is better than beratement, so I'm going with that.
As I read my Bible this morning, the word "Jesus" kept leaping out from the pages. I ignored it at first, then began circling the name. "JESUS" what is in that name? So I wrote it vertically in caps and wouldn't you know? Immediately, I had the Lord's mind regarding my identity in five simple phrases. Try it! Try it for yourself. Pray before hand and ask God to show you what he wants you to know about him and yourself with him IN it! Expect an answer and write them in. I'm going to try this more often, using key words and EXPECTING an answer. Here are some key word ideas: GOD, HOLY SPIRIT, JESUS, TRUTH, LOVE, WISDOM, FORGIVENESS, SURRENDER, WAITING, DREAMING, HOLINESS, JOY, ABUNDANT LIFE.

Jealous for me
Eternal God
Saved me by his grace
Unconditional lover
